Today during class the topic of discussion was conflict. We talked about a lot of different types of conflict. We also talked about that having brothers and sisters might make it easier to deal with conflict. I think that this is very true. I have two brothers and two sisters, we would always be getting into arguments about small things. I learned to compromise better by giving in on somethings and then the next conflict they would give in. Conflict is not a bad thing if you know the right way to deal with it and turn it into something positive.

Today in class we starting talking about conflicts, the main type we discussed was psuedo-conficts, which is the misunderstanding between two interdependent people. I actually encountered one of these types of conflicts yesterday at work with a co-worker of mine. I was trying to explain to him an aspect of a piece of equipment that I was trying to sell and he was getting upset with me because he didn't understand what I was trying to say, quickly I explained exactly what I was talking about so the conflict didn't escalate into an arguement. I think that this is a good subject to learn about because everyone encounters conflicts in their everyday life.

Service Project Planning Details

Some of the group and I were able to talk to the President of Circle K tonight. Her name is Becky Wilson. We went into detail on what we are trying to plan for the service project.

First, the two main things we are doing is a recruitment drive and help organize/set up the event. Second, we discussed about who we would like to target to help (mostly other organizations on campus and fraternities/sororities). We plan on either setting up a booth, chalking, sheet, and/or flyers. Finally, we talked about the time we might like to do it. We are thinking in the beginning of November sometime.

This is what we did for our service project this week.

This week our group went to a Circle K meeting that kyle is a part of and we found some good ideas at the meeting. It was my first time ebeing at one of those meetings. I think they are a great program that really helps out around the community. We have narrowed our decision down to a can food drive. I am really excited to get started on this project.

Starting the Service Project

Today, some of my group members and I went to a Purdue Circle K meeting. We are going to use Purdue Circle K as our community organization.

You can locate Purdue Circle K via this web link: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~circlek/

We discussed some project ideas and decided on a specific one. We all decided to do a food can drive. We still need more details but we got some of the basics. What we plan to do is start a recruitment drive to get people to volunteer for it. Then we will try to set up the event for Purdue Circle K. We are still working on the details but this is what we have so far.

Name: Nathan Zink

Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology

Senior graduating in May 2010

My major and work experience as a manager have given me good team work and leadership skills. I believe my background will also help the group resolve any conflicts that arise within the group. I believe that the different backgrounds and skills that each member possesses will allow for a better end product at the conclusion of the course.
